Both the Emporia State womens and mens basketball teams picked up wins over Central Oklahoma Sunday.
The Emporia State womens basketball defeated Central Oklahoma 90-74 Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Hornets used a 14-2 run in the second quarter to turn a 3 point deficit into a 9 point lead and never trailed the rest of the game. Their biggest lead was by 21 points in the 4th quarter. For the 2nd game in a row they shot lights out from the 3 point line making 18 3’s.
Mollie Mounsey scored a game high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Emporia State.
Karsen Schultz added 15 points, Jessica Wayne finished with 14 points Fredricka Sheats added 12 and Grace Gordon finished with 10 points.
Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn says having 5 players score in double-figures is a big plus.
Emporia State did play without freshman guard Tre’Zure Jobe who was out with a concussion.
The Lady Hornets with the win are now 14-4 for the season and 7-2 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State men out scored Central Oklahoma 92-84.
The game featured 19 lead changes and 8 ties. They would take the lead for good with 3:58 to play.
Jumah’Ri Turner scored a career high 32 points, making 8 of 9 field goal attempts and all 11 free throws.
Keyon Thomas added 20 points, Dallas Bailey finished with 12 points and Tyreek Robinson and Devin Rottweiler both scored 10 points.
Coach Craig Doty called it big step in the right direction.
With the win the Emporia State men are now 10-8 for the season and 4-5 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State women and men play at Central Missouri Wednesday night.
