While the weather outside may have been frightful, the atmosphere inside the Lee Beran Recreation Center sure was delightful Saturday.
This was due to the “It’s Plumb Cold Chili and Soup Feed” fundraiser to benefit Plumb Place being held. The past several months Plumb Place has been working to clear past debts, what Director Mary Richardson has called “high-range contracts,” after a stated loss of over $50,000 from 2014 to 2017 that remains under investigation by Emporia Police.
Plumb Place managed to clear $15,000 in general operation expenses by reaching a fundraising goal back in November before setting its second goal of $30,000 according to Richardson. At this time Plumb Place has generated around $11,000 towards this goal and Richardson gave all the credit to the generosity of the local community.
All proceeds from the soup and chili feed will benefit operations at Plumb Place. In addition to raising funds, the event also helped Plumb Place spread awareness of the new vision 2020 Program which Richardson says will focus on the health of their residents.
According to Richardson, several other fundraising events are currently in the works including a taco feed in February. Additional details will be announced at a later time.
The fundraiser generated a total of $559. For more information on upcoming fundraisers or how to donate to Plumb Place call 342-1613.
