Two more candidates have filed for election to the Lyon County Commission.
Phil Mott, a 14-year member of the Lyon County Planning Board, filed for the Lyon County Commissioner District 2 position, or Northwest Lyon County, Thursday. Mott tells KVOE News he has been impressed by the county’s recent focus on the City/County joint comprehensive plan, specifically on zoning matters.
Mott is the second person to apply for the District 2 seat, and third candidate overall to file following current Commission Chair and 3rd District Commissioner Rollie Martin earlier this week. The second candidate to file was Robert McClelland who filed paperwork Wednesday.
McClelland, a native of Lyon County and former Flint Hills Technical College student, relocated to the Kansas City area before returning to the county where he currently resides in Allen with his wife Carissa. McClelland says there are a number of aspects with the current commission which has impressed him including the county’s conscious spending which has led to Lyon County being a debt-free county.
As previously mentioned, both McClelland and Mott’s filings follow current commissioner Rollie Martin who, along with current District 2 Commissioner Dan Slater, is an incumbent for the 2020 election cycle.
