Plumb Place has its first major fundraiser of the year coming this weekend.
The “It’s Plumb Cold Chili and Soup Feed” goes from 11 am to 2 pm Saturday at the Lee Beran Recreation Center. Cost is $5 per meal.
All proceeds benefit Plumb Place and its operations. Here’s Board Vice President Linda Clarke:
Plumb Place has been working the past several months to clear past debts, what Director Mary Richardson has called “high-range contracts,” after a stated loss of over $50,000 from 2014 to 2017 that remains under investigation by Emporia Police. At last word, Plumb Place had about $25,000 remaining. Fundraisers the last few months of 2019 cleared $15,000 in general operations expenses and also provided over $9,000 against the contracts.
In addition, the fundraiser will serve as an informal introduction to Plumb Place’s new Vision 2020, a five-point holistic program including wellness in employment, education, mental health, physical health and life skills for the women in crisis situations that use the facility.
