It was a mixed night for the Emporia State basketball teams Wednesday night. The Lady Hornets defeated Newman and Newman won the mens game.
The Emporia State womens basketball team defeated Newman 93-64.
The Lady Hornets shot a sizzling 48 percent from the 3 point line making 18 three point shots. Coach Toby Wynn said they played well offensively.
Mollie Mounsey scored a game high 22 points, making 6 three point baskets.
Karsen Schultz added 17 points making 4 three point shots.
Fredricka Sheats finished with 11 points and Tre’Zure Jobe scored 10 points and had 7 assists.
Newman was led by Braxtyn Stewart with 10 points.
The Lady Hornets are now 13-4 for the season and 6-2 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State men were out scored by Newman 75-71. The game featured 10 lead changes and had 5 ties. Emporia State biggest lead was by 9 in the 2nd half. They were out scored 21-9 from the freethrow line and 13-4 off of turnovers. Coach Craig Doty said they made to many mistakes.
Keyon Thomas scored a game high 30 points to lead Emporia State in scoring. Duncan Fort added 15 points and a team high 8 rebounds. Mason Thiessen finished with 10 points.
The Hornets are now 9-8 for the season and 3-5 in the MIAA.
Both the Emporia State women and men host Central Oklahoma Sunday afternoon.
