Totals may not be impressive, but a wintry mix of precipitation may hamper travel across most of Kansas — including the entire KVOE listening area — by Friday morning.
The latest guidance trends towards up to 0.25 inches of icing possible with heavier icing totals south of Emporia. Some places areawide could get up to two inches of a snow-sleet mix on top of the ice, while other locations may only get a dusting.
Travel issues are expected. Assistant County Engineer Jim Brull says crews have to plan for the different types of wintry precipitation. They also have to factor in temperatures as they decide how best to keep roads clear.
Overnight lows should be in the mid-20s with temperatures climbing into the 30s after sunrise, meaning the Highway Department’s treatment and melting materials should be effective for the duration of this event if the forecast holds.
