An autopsy is pending after the death of a Chase County inmate at Morris County Hospital this week.
Chase County Jail Administrator Larry Sigler tells KVOE News he took 35-year-old Matthew Aliber of Johnson County from the jail to the hospital around 6 pm Sunday after Aliber began feeling unwell. Sigler says Aliber passed away around 9 am Monday.
Aliber was jailed after a reported probation violation following a DUI arrest in 2018, according to Sigler.
With Aliber’s death taking place at a hospital and not in law enforcement custody, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation is not planning to get involved in the case.
