The Emporia State womens and mens basketball teams earned wins over Missouri Western Saturday.
The Emporia State women held on for a 74-70 win over Missouri Western.
The Lady Hornets had a 20 point lead 65-45 in the 4th quarter before Missouri Western went on a 22-5 run to cut the lead to 70-67. The Lady Hornets would make four free-throws to seal the win in the final 21 seconds. In the first quarter Emporia State used a 10-0 run to build a lead they never gave up. Coach Toby Wynn was pleased with the first half defense.
Tre’Zure Jobe scored a game high 22 points to lead Emporia State. Morgan Lauden finished with a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kali Martin added 12 points and Mollie Mounsey finished with 10 points. The Lady Hornets improve to 12-2 for the season and 5-0 in MIAA play.
The Emporia State men scored the games first 8 points and never trailed on the way to a 81-68 win over Missouri Western.
Western made things interesting cutting the Hornet lead to 3 with 7:09 to play. Emporia State would close out the game with a 22-12 run. Coach Craig Doty said the team played well.
Jumah’Ri Turner scored 18 points to lead the Hornets. Devin Rottweiler added 16 points and Keyon Thomas finished with 13 points, all coming in the 2nd half. Junior Brenden Van Dyke missed the 2nd half after suffering a knee injury at the end of the first half. His status is to be determined.
The Emporia State men are now 9-5 for the season and 3-2 in the MIAA.
Emporia State plays at Fort Hays State Wednesday.
