The first meeting of the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas will be sending a recommendation to the city of Emporia regarding the Ignite Emporia Campaign.
During the Emporia City Commission’s Nov. 26 study session representatives of Ignite Emporia made a request from the city for a $30,000 contribution. Commissioners tabled the item to a later date, however, city commission RDA representative Jon Geitz sought insight from the RDA during their Friday morning meeting on the commission’s next move.
Board members made the recommendation for the commission to “strongly consider” the one-time contribution according to RDA President Kent Heerman. A date for when commissioners plan to revisit the conversation has yet to be announced.
In other business, the RDA welcomed its newest board members and held discussions regarding their strategic plan. The RDA will reconvene for its monthly meeting in February.
