The Emporia State womens basketball team out scored Northwest Missouri State 79-66 to extend their winning streak to 8 in a row Thursday night.
The 16th ranked Lady Hornets closed the game on a 17-7 run to seal the win. That run came after Northwest Missouri State used an 8-0 run to turn an 11 point Emporia State lead into a 3 point lead. Coach Toby Wynn called it a great team win.
Tre’Zure Jobe scored a game high 26 points to lead the Lady Hornets. Mollie Mounsey and Morgan Laudan finished with 15 points. Laudan also had a team high 6 rebounds and 5 steals.
Kali Martin added 10 points.
The Lady Hornets are now 11-2 on the season and 4-0 in MIAA play.
Northwest Missouri State won the mens game 71-56. The number 2 ranked Bearcats closed the game with a 25-12 run. The Hornets used a Zac Owens 3 point basket to get with in 2 points at 46-44 before Northwest put the game out of reach. Coach Craig Doty was pleased with the way the Hornets competed.
Jumah’Ri Turner scored a team high 22 points and Brenden Van Dyke added 14 points. Northwest was led by Trevor Hudgins with 28 points.
The Emporia State men are now 8-5 for the season and 2-2 in the MIAA.
Both the Emporia State women and men are scheduled to host Missouri Western Saturday.
