Topeka High swept the Emporia High girls and boys basketball teams Tuesday night.
Topeka High, the number 1 ranked 6A team, won the girls game 61-32. Emporia High had an early 5-4 lead but Topeka High used a 13-0 run to take a 17-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and Emporia High never caught up. Topeka High forced the Lady Spartans into 30 turnovers and Emporia High Coach Carolyn Dorsey said that proved to be the big difference.
Gacie Gilpin and Mya Tovar were the leading scorers for Emporia High with 8 points each. The Lady Spartans are now 3-4 for the season and 2-2 in Centennial League play.
Topeka High won the boys game 76-69. Topeka High out scored the Spartans 24-15 in the 3rd quarter to break a 29 all tie at halftime. Emporia High cut the deficit to 3 in the 4th quarter but Coach Beau Welchs team could get no closer.
Charles Snyder scored a game high 33 points to lead Emporia High. Skyler Douglas added 15 and Hunter Hines finished with 11 points. The Spartans are now 4-3 for the season and 2-2 in Centennial league play.
The Emporia High girls and boys play at Topeka Seaman Friday night.
