The annual Dave Hollond Memorial Youth Hunt is underway.
Hunters began the two-day hunt with safety meetings and discussions with their guides Saturday morning before fanning out south of Emporia shortly after 2 pm. Logan Hammond harvested a deer during last year’s hunt and was back at it again this year — this time with a new rifle he worked all year to get. He says he’s better prepared for this year’s hunt as opposed to last year’s.
Jared Johnson, meanwhile, was taking part in his first hunt.
The event is named for Dave Hollond, the longtime coordinator of what was originally called the Clint Bowyer Youth Deer Management Hunt before Hollond’s sudden passing five years ago. Five hunters are participating this year.
