The Emporia High boys wrestling team opened 2020 with a duel win over Spring Hill 45-25. The Emporia High girls lost a close duel with Spring Hill.
5 Spartans won their matches by falls. Joshue Palomares at 106.
Ethan Garate at 170 won his match by fall.
Alex Redick at 145, Bobby Trujillo at 182 and Darin Neal at 195 also won by falls.
David Schaefer at 126 (7-3), Xerarch Tungjaroenkul at 132 (7-0) and Whitney Hall at 220 (7-1) won by decision.
Coach Brook Medrano was pleased with the efforts.
Spring Hill won the girls duel 28-27.
Evelin Geronimo at 109 won her match by fall.
Maddie Griffin won her match by decision(11-5).
Coach Brook Medrano said this first duel was a learning experience for the girls.
The next matches for the girls will be January 8th at JC Harmon.
The next tournament for the boys will be at Dodge City January 11th.
