Formal charges are pending against three people after a reported chase in central Greenwood County right after Christmas.
The Sheriff’s Office says deputies tried to conduct a car stop on US Highway 54 outside Eureka on Dec. 26, but the driver instead led a chase through several neighborhoods in town before going west out of Eureka. The vehicle turned off US-54 and went into Reece, where the occupants abandoned it and fled on foot into a field. As the chase developed, the pursuing deputy had a single-vehicle crash that disabled his vehicle so law enforcement used a drone and a thermal imaging camera to find the suspects.
Authorities ultimately arrested 18-year-old Jake Thompson, 33-year-old Patricia Perkins and a currently unnamed juvenile. Deputies say the vehicle involved was stolen out of Leavenworth, where Perkins was charged earlier this year with flee and elude. Court proceedings are underway in that case.
