Thursday’s crash on the Kansas Turnpike near Emporia has been listed as a fatality, and the Kansas Highway Patrol says a medical incident may well have been the underlying reason for the wreck.
The Highway Patrol says Randy Davis of Wichita was northbound when he crashed about a mile southwest of Emporia shortly before 4 pm Thursday. Davis had a seizure, which caused convulsions and rendered him incapacitated. Davis’ car went down a steep embankment, drove through a fence and slammed head-on into a tree.
Davis was taken to Newman Regional Health, but he died a few hours after the crash. A passenger, 45-year-old Avril Davis of Wichita, was taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected serious injuries. Both were wearing their seatbelts when the crash happened.
Randy Davis was 59 years old.
