Plumb Place will close 2019 in fundraising mode as it works to clear past debts.
Director Mary Richardson says the women’s crisis facility has raised almost $9,500 since reaching one of its fundraising goals last month: generating $15,000 to cover operating expenses for the rest of the year. This means Plumb Place needs about $25,000 to pay off what Richardson has called high-range contracts from years past.
Plumb Place has been struggling to get past the discovery of missing money from earlier this decade. For the past 15 months, Emporia Police has been investigating a stated loss of over $50,000 from 2014 to 2017. In October, Plumb Place said the facility was at risk of closure if it could not raise enough money to get through the end of the year.
Richardson tells KVOE News additional donations to end this year and start next year will be used for what is now being called the 2020 vision program, which is designed to increase successful outcomes for clients and household expenses. The next major fundraiser for Plumb Place is a soup and chili feed next month.
