There will be a record amount of travelers for the Christmas holiday. Given recent trends, it’s quite possible that a record percentage will be texting while behind the wheel.
AAA Kansas Public and Government Affairs Manager Shawn Steward urged people to be safe — and not drive while “intexticated.”
Steward says there are several ways to eliminated distracted driving, including:
*Putting the phone away
*Know where you’re going so you don’t have to rely on a mapping app
*Pull over if you have to call or text
*Ask passengers for help to navigate, make calls or send messages
Distracted driving is now the third-leading cause of vehicle fatalities, following speeding and alcohol- or drug-impaired wrecks. Distracted driving kills nine people and injures 1,000 more across the country every day.
