Details are still pending after a train hit a man in downtown Emporia early Sunday.
Police Sgt. Lisa Sage says reports are still being compiled. Police likely won’t release the name of the victim or other details about this incident until the preliminary investigation is completed, and it may be several days before that happens.
A man in his 50s was hit at the Merchant Street crossing just after midnight. He was quickly taken to Newman Regional Health and later transferred to Stormont-Vail in Topeka after suffering what Emporia firefighters called traumatic injuries to both legs. His condition is unclear.
Traffic on all three railroad tracks was halted for over an hour as the man received medical attention and officers investigated the scene.
