Two Chase County residents were hurt after three vehicles collided near Parsons on Sunday morning.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 62-year-olds Thomas Rice and DeEllen Rice, both of Cottonwood Falls, were passengers in a car driven by 46-year-old Aimee Gordon of Garden Plain. Gordon was eastbound on US Highway 400 just west of Parsons when an SUV driven by 18-year-old Kimberly Ourada of Parsons failed to stop at a sign and hit a westbound truck driven by 56-year-old Hubert Merriet of Rogersville, Missouri, around 9 am. Gordon’s car then hit Merriet’s truck.
Both Thomas and DeEllen Rice suffered suspected serious injuries. Thomas Rice was taken to Labette Health, while DeEllen Rice was taken to Neosho County Hospital for treatment. In all, five people were hospitalized due to the crash.
The Highway Patrol says a brake malfunction may have led to the wreck.
