A crash in southwest Lyon County near Emporia sent an Andover man to Newman Regional Health for treatment Friday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 62-year-old Mark Chittwood was southbound on the Kansas Turnpike when his car went off the highway towards the shoulder shortly after 1:45 pm. Chittwood overcorrected. His car then went across both lanes of traffic, hit the center barrier wall and crossed both lanes before going off the highway.
Chittwood, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, was taken to Newman Regional Health for suspected minor injuries.
The wreck happened near mile marker 122, five miles southwest of Emporia.
3:20 pm Friday: Single vehicle accident on Kansas Turnpike sends one to Newman
Emergency crews have transported one person to Newman Regional Health following an injury accident on the Kansas Turnpike Friday afternoon.
Crews were called to KTA mile marker 122.8 shortly before 2 pm Friday. According to the Emporia Fire Department, the accident involved one southbound vehicle which left the roadway for currently unknown reasons and came to a rest in the west ditch.
The driver of the vehicle, a male, was taken by ambulance to Newman with what are being called “non-life threatening” injuries. No other occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
