If you still have packages that need to be shipped to loved ones before Christmas, the Emporia Post Office has you covered.
Emporia Postmaster Harry Gifford recently joined KVOE’s Newsmaker segment to update all residents on holiday mailing hours through the post office. Gifford says things have been busy at the Post Office since right around Thanksgiving when they began delivering mail seven days week through the 13 different delivery routes in Emporia.
Gifford adds, their package volume this year is 25-30 percent higher than in 2018. Because of this, once again the post office has not only extended their delivery days, they have also extended their window hours to include 10 am to 2 pm on Sundays.
In order to help expedite the shipping process, Gifford says there are several steps residents can take starting with ensuring the address on the package is written correctly and clearly. Gifford also says it is important to make sure any fragile packages should have extra padding and residents should indicate it is a fragile package so mail carriers take extra care when handling it.
For anyone who may receive a package pickup notice between now and Tuesday, Gifford says the Post Office window will be open until 4 pm on Christmas Eve. For more information contact the Emporia Post Office at 800-275-8777.
