The Salvation Army of Emporia’s Red Kettle Campaign continues following strong donation numbers from this past weekend’s slew of events.
The campaign’s latest doubler day took place last Friday and raised a total of $2,188 which will now be matched up to $1,000 by an anonymous donor. Additionally, last Saturday saw the latest installment of the Badges United Bell Ringing competition between the Emporia Fire Department, Emporia Police Department and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Salvation Army Cpt. Deb Thompson, the Emporia Police Department won this year’s competition with a total of $1,151. The Fire Department was second with $473 and the Sheriff’s Office was third with $402.
Thompson says she was amazed by the totals from this weekend which adds up to just over $6,000.
The fundraisers came as last week Thompson announced the campaign was behind year’s past with only $17,000 generated towards its $63,000 goal. According to Thompson, the campaign is now sitting just under 50 percent.
To help continue bolstering numbers the campaign will be holding its first Real Estate Wednesday this Wednesday as Ek Real Estate, Coldwell Banker and Farm and Home will take over the Badges United fundraising sites at Wal-Mart and Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply from 4 to 7 pm. The final doubler day will be coming this Friday as another anonymous donor will be matching any and all donations up to $1,000 through the day.
Fundraising efforts will continue through Christmas Eve. For more information, call the Salvation Army at 342-3093.
