The Emporia Police Department Benefit Association took over the Emporia Main Street headquarters Thursday evening for their second community toy drive in as many weeks.
Officers joined representatives of TFI Family Services and St. Francis Ministries, the two agencies who benefit from the toy drive donations, in collecting new toys to put under the trees of local foster children come Christmas Day. Emporia Police Captain Jim Tilton says local law enforcement looks forward to opportunities like this to work with and benefit local agencies in the community.
Tilton adds, everyone at the department is involved in some aspect which he believes helps local residents connect with the men and women who help to keep them safe on a daily basis.
Along with donating to the drive, visitors and children had the opportunity to write a letter to Santa Claus and even speak to the jolly man himself as Old Saint Nick traveled down from the North Pole to help get involved. Totals from the toy drive will be announced at a later time.
