The next week is busy for the Salvation Army of Emporia.
The latest Doubler Day is Friday. An anonymous donor will match donations at Emporia’s seven kettles up to $1,000.
Salvation Army Capt. Deb Thompson, a KVOE Morning Show guest Thursday, says the Doubler Days have become a key fundraiser for the Red Kettle campaign.
Meanwhile, Badges United, featuring the Emporia Fire Department, Emporia Police Department and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, is coming Saturday to Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply and Walmart. Fire Chief Jack Taylor, Police Sgt. Lisa Sage and Sheriff Jeff Cope are on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Friday with a preview.
In addition, the Salvation Army has its first Real Estate Wednesday coming next week. Thompson says Ek Real Estate, Farm and Home and Coldwell Banker will take over the same Badges United locations and raise money for the cause.
Another Doubler Day — and another anonymous match of up to $1,000 — is coming Dec. 20.
The fundraisers come as the overall Red Kettle campaign is behind past years. Thompson says the drive has generated around $17,000, about $8,000 off the pace of past years, in part because Thanksgiving was late and the Salvation Army typically starts its kettle campaign on Black Friday. The goal this year is $63,000, and fundraising will end on Christmas Eve.
