Funeral services have now been announced for Jerry Karr, the former state senator who passed away over the weekend.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Monday at First United Methodist Church. The funeral will be at 2 pm Tuesday, also at the church, with burial following at the Rosean Cemetery.
Karr was 83 when he died Sunday after battling cancer. He grew up on a farm north of Emporia, attended College of Emporia and graduated from Kansas State College. Before his legislative career, which included five years as Senate minority leader, he managed livestock operations and taught graduate school in Illinois. He also served on faculties at Central Missouri State College, the University of Illinois-Urbana, Njala University College of Sierra Leone and Wilmington College of Ohio.
Karr is survived by his son and daughter, four brothers, two sisters, a sister-in-law, nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Memorial contributions can be made out to the Salvation Army of Emporia, Camp Wood, Emporia Kiwanis Club or Americus Methodist Church in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
