As it is the season of giving the American Red Cross is asking local residents to give and help save a life.
According to the American Red Cross, there is currently an urgent need for donations of all blood types as donations tend to decline through the holiday season. Because of the need, the Red Cross is urging any and all who can donate to do so.
Susan Faler of the American Red Cross, a recent guest of KVOE’s Newsmaker segment, says there are numerous upcoming opportunities in the local community to do just that.
Faler says express drives typically have one donor every fifteen minutes. Because of the faster pace between donations, Faler says donors need to schedule an appointment for the upcoming express drive as there is typically not a lot of time to accept walk-ins.
The Newman Blood Drive will take place inside the Newman Conference Center and will run from 11 am to 5 pm Dec. 18, 8 am to 2 pm on Dec. 19 and 10 am to 4 pm on Dec. 20. Additional opportunities for donations through next week include a drive organized by Emporia High School Thursday from 11 am to 5 pm at Flint Hills Mall next to the movie theater.
Blood drives will continue now through the early part of next year and include:
