Emporia’s Salvation Army will be looking to raise $63,000 through its annual Red Kettle Campaign this year.
The goal was announced by Salvation Army Cpt. Deb Thompson Friday during the official Red Kettle Kickoff celebration at the Emporia Arts Center. This year’s schedule of donation events will include the annual Badges United and doubler days and will see the addition of two new fundraising events.
Four local artists have redesigned four kettles which are on display at the Emporia Arts Center and will allow residents to vote for their favorite through donations. Additionally, a new competition amongst local real-estate agencies, titled Real-Estate Wednesday, will also be taking place on Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 4-7 pm.
During Friday’s kickoff, the first Kettle Donation was made by Salvation Army Advisory Board member Mike Dorcey. Dorcey has been involved with the Red Kettle Campaign for a number of years and says he enjoys seeing the community come together to support those in need.
Cpt. Deb says if you are unable to make a monetary donation to the campaign, you can still donate your time by manning a kettle.
