Albert Taylor Hall on the campus of Emporia State hosted an evening of celebrating diversity on Tuesday.
The evening started off with a diversity discussion open to both students and community members. The discussion panel – led by Coordinator of Diversity Student Programs Theresa Taylor Williams – consisted of Emporia State students, faculty, and members of the surrounding community.
Led by Williams, Emporia State is striving to become a model of diversity. Williams says this will require ESU to do things a little differently than other institutions.
The event also featured a performance by the Emporia Symphony Orchestra. The performance was centered around celebrating diversity in Emporia, and thus coined the name “A Symphonic Kaleidoscope.” The performance showcased works by four different composers; the following titled “Commemorative Overture” by Gary Ziek.
The diversity discussion and orchestra performance were both built on the foundation of harmony.
