Emporia firefighters were called out on several fires Sunday, although none of them were big.
Crews were dispatched to two small grass fires that developed along Interstate 35 near the Kansas Highway 130 exit around 2 pm. Battalion Chief Ryan Schmidt says the fires totaled about five acres before they were put out. Causes have not been determined.
A crew was also called to Huddle House, 4215 West Highway 50, after a structure fire was reported around noon. However, the fire was out before EFD arrived. The incident developed after an egg carton got too close to a griddle and caught fire.
