November is Prematurity Awareness Month and the Women’s Life Center is here to give information and spread awareness on the topic.
Prematurity is defined as the birth of a child prior to the 37-week gestation mark. Nearly 1 out of 10 children are born premature, measuring out to nearly 400,000 babies per year.
Several internal and external factors can lead to premature birth, says Director of the Women’s Life Center, Heather Aylward.
Each year, the March of Dimes releases a ‘report card’ for every state, grading their prematurity rate. For 2019, Kansas received a C+. Looking forward, Aylward would like that to be an A+, so she explains what the Women’s Life Center is doing to aid this effort locally.
Prematurity is a sensitive and personal topic, so the Women’s Life Center will have a booth set up on Monday at Newman Regional Health from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm to discuss the topic. For more information, click HERE or call at (620) 343-6800 ext. 4477.
