Emporia State University’s Albert Taylor Hall hosted the 2019 All Veterans Tribute Show Friday evening. The show featured performances by the Emporia High School Men’s Choir, Keith Shaver, the Emporia Municipal Band, and more.
In 1953, the founding city of Emporia celebrated Veterans Day for the first time and has been doing so ever since. This year marked 66 years of observing the holiday.
The Emporia High School Men’s Choir opened the event with their performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner”…
… and brought their portion to a close by performing a song titled “Tell My Father.”
Keith Shaver then honored the stars and stripes with a monologue titled “Ragged Old Flag.”
The event paid special tribute to each branch of the Armed Forces by displaying the flag belonging to each branch while the Emporia Municipal Band performed “The Armed Forces Salute.”
Kansas Department Vice Commander of the American Legion Marri Krupko took the stage to share about the founding pillars of the American Legion and how the organization is still operating on its core principles.
Kansas Department Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lee Hursey spoke to all that the VFW can provide to veterans and their families.
The Emporia Municipal Band closed the All Veterans Tribute Show by performing a variety of patriotic songs and marches – the most popular of which was “America the Beautiful.”
This event wraps up the 2019 All Veterans Tribute, but residents can still enjoy the Veterans Artist Gallery at the Emporia Arts Center through November 30th.
