If you like playing in water in freezing temperatures for a great cause then the annual Emporia Polar Plunge is the event for you.
For the past 14 years, the freezing and fun fundraiser has helped to support local Special Olympics thanks to the generosity, and bravery, of local residents who enjoy taking a quick dip. Online registration is now open at PlungeKS.org.
Residents may sign up as individuals, however, organizer Mitch Guthrie encourages people to sign up as a team in order to have a little “polar support” alongside them come plunge day.
Guthrie says this year’s Polar Plunge will be slightly different from previous years as it pertains to their incentive prizes to motivate residents in their fundraising efforts. Guthrie says there will still be plenty of incentive for residents to raise as much money as possible, only this year the prize will be a bit bigger and given out through a special raffle.
The Polar Plunge will take place Saturday, Feb. 15 at Mouse Lake, 1220 Topeka Ave. The theme for Emporia’s plunge will be “touchdown for Special Olympics.
