The Kansas Highway Patrol is increasing the number of cattle killed in Saturday’s semi crash southwest of Emporia.
Capt. Joe Bott says roughly half the load of 36 cattle were killed, either directly by the crash or by being euthanized afterward. Troopers on site originally said four cattle were killed.
The crash happened at mile marker 122, or five miles southwest of Emporia. Bott says the currently unnamed driver swerved to miss a deer in the highway. The semi went off the Turnpike and rolled afterward.
