The Chase County All Veterans Memorial Veterans Day Ceremony drew a large crowd of veterans, students, and community members to the gymnasium of Chase County Junior/Senior High School on Monday afternoon.
Traditionally, this ceremony is held at the Chase County Veterans Memorial in Swope Park; however, the Chase County All Veterans Committee made the decision late last week to move it indoors due to the freezing weather.
The Master of Ceremonies, Army Colonel Charles R. Rayl, introduced the Chase County All Veterans Committee Colorguard, the Chase County Elementary School second grade class, the CCHS Choir & Voices, and finally guest speaker Steve Dieker.
Steve Dieker was born and raised in Cottonwood Falls, graduating from the high school. Dieker is a former U.S. Navy Pilot and currently an International Captain for Delta Airlines. Dieker appreciates his local raising and calls it an advantage.
Following the trend of advantages, Dieker says his military experience put him ahead of others, especially when becoming a pilot for Delta.
The Veterans Day Ceremony concluded with the playing of Echo Taps by Cory Johnson, Ashlee Williams, and Cooper Schroer.
