Separate crashes in Lyon County resulted in two people needing medical attention at Newman Regional Health on Veterans Day.
The first crash was reported shortly after 5:30 am on US Highway 56 near Road U and the Kansas Turnpike’s Admire-Council Grove-Osage city exit. Deputies say 35-year-old April Potter of Allen was eastbound in a pickup when she slid on the icy road and lost control, with her truck rolling into a ditch and landing on its roof. Potter went to Newman Regional Health with non-life-threatening injuries. Two children in the truck were not hurt.
A second injury crash was reported at the junction of Kansas Highway 99 and Road 90, about two miles north of Olpe, shortly after 7:30 am. Deputies say 18-year-old Logan John Young lost control of his pickup, left the highway and rolled. Like Potter, Young’s injuries are considered minor.
Several non-injury crashes have been reported elsewhere, especially on the Kansas Turnpike southwest of Emporia with reports of numerous slide-offs.
