Quilts of Gratitude took place Saturday at the Bowyer Community Building and the quilts, the veterans, and the ceremony can all be described in the same way – outstandingly beautiful.
This year’s ceremony had a switch in the venue, due to the American Legion Post #5 no longer having the capacity to hold the growing crowds of veterans and community onlookers. Over 50 quilts were crafted this year to be handed out by local Scouts. Emporia Army veteran Monte Swanson received a quilt this year and thinks very highly of the event.
For everyone involved – the quilters, veterans, Scouts, and the community – this is an intensely emotional ceremony. Army veteran Allen Curless says he was no exception.
All Veterans Tribute activities are occurring throughout the week. For a full list of these events, go to visitemporia.com.
