Sentencing is coming next year for a Burlington man in a case which originated 18 months ago.
36-year-old Christopher Murphy entered an Alford plea to one count of attempted involuntary vehicular manslaughter while under the influence of drugs or alcohol during a hearing in Lyon County District Court Tuesday afternoon. Murphy was charged in July with one count of involuntary vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in the death of 50-year old Kimberly Roney in March 2018.
Court records provided to KVOE News show Roney was killed after a wreck in the 1400 block of Kansas Highway 130. Murphy was found about two hours after the crash was discovered, walking on Interstate 35 in Coffey County. Before the wreck, both were at a New Strawn bar before leaving together, according to bar staff.
Sentencing for Murphy is scheduled for Jan. 8 at 3 pm in Lyon County District Court.
