Kansas polling places are now open with the 2019 general election officially underway.
For the most part, the ballot is locally-driven. Areawide, the ballot includes races for mayor, city council, city commission and school boards, as well as school bond issues for USD 253 Emporia and USD 389 Eureka and a sales tax question in Eureka.
All voters will also decide the fate of a constitutional amendment relating to adjusted census numbers. The Secretary of State’s Office says Kansas could spend about $835,000 next year contacting around 13,000 college students and military service personnel to figure out their official residences when the Census Bureau already does that.
Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat reminds local voters to bring their driver’s license with them to their local polling place. She says there will be no change in polling places from year’s past and there is a number of ways voters can seek clarification regarding polling sites or any other questions regarding the general election.
Vopat says there was a total of 922 voters who recently took advantage of advanced voting opportunities.
KVOE will have complete election coverage starting around 7 pm, including results as they develop and candidate reactions after those results are finalized. Be sure to follow KVOE social media on Facebook@kvoenews and Twitter@kvoeam1400 for results as those are announced.
