Near-freezing temperatures did not deter community members and elementary students from taking part in Logan Avenue Elementary School’s Running with the Lions 5K on Saturday, in fact, numbers rose from last year.
The total number of runners this year reached just under 140 participants, while last year saw 117. The number of kids running the race also increased substantially rising to over 50 children in the school’s running club.
Runners launched from the start line at 9:00 am to complete the 5K. Logan Avenue Student Emma Batty tells KVOE News that she and everyone else running are supporting her school.
Student Lincoln Smith says he may be new to Logan Avenue, but he’s out running with his friends to support the school, especially the field trips, even if he doesn’t know when and where they’ll take place.
Funds raised will go to help sponsor field trips, supplies, and other activities for Logan Avenue Elementary and its many students.
