A semi hauling gravel to the Reading Wind Facility has been considered a total loss following a fire near the facility Wednesday evening.
Reading fire crews were called to the 2200 block of Road V shortly after 5:30 pm. According to Kevin Sorenson of the Reading Fire Department, upon arrival firefighters found one semi fully engulfed in flames.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire but not before it destroyed the semi which was hauling gravel to the wind farm project site. Sorenson says the fire was caused by a currently undetermined mechanical issue.
The driver of the semi was not hurt. Hartford, Miller and Emporia fire crews were also called to the scene but were cancelled en route.
