It appears our first winter driving episode of the fall may be coming Tuesday night and much of Wednesday.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers is expecting the full gamut of winter precipitation forms beginning after sunset Tuesday.
Very little precipitation is expected overnight, with maybe a half-inch total of snow and sleet at the top end. The current thought is up to two inches of snow and 0.10 to 0.20 inches of ice are possible by Wednesday night.
Winter weather advisories cover most of the KVOE listening area. Lyon County is in an advisory beginning at 9 pm Tuesday until 10 pm Wednesday, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in an advisory from 10 pm Tuesday to 10 pm Wednesday. Chase and Greenwood Counties, meanwhile, is in an advisory from 9 pm Tuesday to 7 pm Wednesday.
City and county crews are watching the forecast and are ready if needed. Both the Emporia Public Works Department and Lyon County Highway Department have been receiving snow melting or traction materials over the past few days.
This particular system comes on the heels of our first taste of winter Monday. Brief periods of sleet were noticed across Emporia late in the day.
