A Florida man suffered apparently significant injuries after falling out of a tree stand near Americus on Saturday.
Emporia Fire responded to the 2300 block of Road C, about three miles due west of Americus, after 57-year-old Jonathan Knapp of Brooksville, Florida, fell out of a tree stand at least 10 feet to the ground. Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says people need to be extremely careful when they spend time in a tree stand, and they need to be careful when they set one up.
Knapp was alert, conscious and breathing when a rescue team arrived, but suffered injuries to his ankles, knees and a wrist. He was treated at the scene and airlifted to Stormont-Vail in Topeka for more treatment.
It’s unclear whether Knapp was hunting, scoping future hunts or doing something else when he fell.
