Evergy continued its repairs from late August storm activity with a project in northwest Emporia on Friday.
Spokesman Andrew Baker says a crew adjusted some power poles along 24th between Prairie and Industrial during the morning and early afternoon hours. No large-scale power outages were needed to complete the work.
What the National Weather Service described as a serial microburst on Aug. 29-30 brought measured wind speeds as high as 93 mph and estimated wind speeds up to 110 mph in parts of Lyon and Chase counties, knocking out power to over 13,000 Evergy and Lyon-Coffey customers and destroying an untold number of poles across the KVOE listening area in the process. Evergy and Lyon-Coffey made an initial set of repairs to their respective grids in late August and early September and have continued the work since then.
