A blocked extra point was the difference for the Emporia High football team in their 14-13 win over Junction City Friday night.
The two teams played a scoreless first half. Emporia High broke the tie when Beau Baumgardner scored on an 8 yard run with 5:40 to play in the 3rd quarter.
Junction City tied the game on a 3 yard touchdown pass in the 4th quarter. Emporia High retook the lead with over 3:57 to play in the game on a John Miller touchdown run.
Junction City returned the ensuing kick-off for a touchdown. Emporia Highs Skyler Beatty blocked the extra point. Beatty also had an interception to help seal the win.
Senior Beau Baumgardner was a work horse finishing with 35 carries for 254 yards and a touchdown.
The Spartans improve to 5 and 3 for the season. They are the 6th seed in 5A West they will host Newton next Friday in the first round of the play-offs.
