Kansas State used a strong defensive effort to defeat the Emporia State mens basketball team 86-49 Friday night.
The Wildcats held the Hornets to 34 percent shooting on the night. They also forced 23 turnovers and out rebounded Emporia State 47-34 with 17 offensive rebounds.
Kansas State scored 34 points off of turnovers and 11 second chance points.
Emporia State Coach Craig Doty said the Wildcats defense was good.
The Wildcats were led by Xavier Sneed and Antonio Gordon with 18 points. Emporia State was led by Brenden Van Dyke with 11 points.
Kansas State led at halftime 42-19 and out scored the Hornets in the 2nd half 44-30.
Emporia State will be off until November 8th when they open the season against Southwestern Oklahoma State at the MIAA/GAC Challenge in Russellville, Arkansas.
Kansas State will host Pittsburg State next Wednesday.
