The Emporia Fire Department responded to a call for a gas leak in south Emporia Thursday evening.
Fire and Kansas Gas Service crews were called to a home located at 9 South Rural Street shortly before 5 pm. According to Battalion Chief Ryan Conley, residents at the home were digging in the backyard and struck a gas line.
Conley says gas crews had to dig the line back up upon their arrival as the residents reburied the line after it was punctured. No injuries were reported.
Conley reminds all residents, to 1-800-Safe-Dig to have markers placed to indicate all underground utility lines before doing any kind of digging or landscaping in their yards.
