RES Americas, the developers and construction firm for the Reading Wind Facility, is continuing to impact the local community this time through a donation to USD 251.
During a special ceremony Wednesday morning at Northern Heights High School, representatives of RES handed off a $10,000 check to Northern Heights principal Peggy Fort to support the Northern Heights Honor Flight Program. The donation will aid students and local veterans who will be journeying to the nation’s capital, Washington D.C., for the district’s first honor flight trip.
RES Senior Project Manager Andy Shetter says RES has a strong policy for hiring veterans and supporting local community initiatives whenever they go. He calls the donation a “win-win.”
Fort says the donation will provide a cushion for future honor flights as their students have already raised the needed funds for the inaugural trip in Nov. with USD 252 Southern Lyon County. She says the donation means when the district begins preparations for its next flight, they won’t have to start from scratch with fundraising.
The Honor Flight program pairs student guardians with local veterans for a two-day round trip to Washington D.C. to visit a slew of war memorials. Four USD 251 students and four veterans will be taking part in the district’s first Honor Flight which will launch on Nov. 4 and return on Nov. 5
