Sugar Skull! A Dia de los Muertos Musical Adventure! came to Albert Taylor Hall in Emporia on Tuesday, bringing all the spirit and joy of Mexican culture with it.
Sugar Skull! tells the story of how a young girl named Vita Flores begins to understand the extensive celebrations of Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. Vita is guided on her journey by a charming candy skeleton with a few tricks and a secret up his sleeve.
Featuring music, colors, and a troupe of charismatic actors, Sugar Skull! aims to highlight the traditions of ancient and modern Mexico.
The Emporia Arts Center hosted the production in light of this year’s Dia de los Muertos celebration. The celebration itself – hosted by Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow – is set to take place this Saturday in downtown Emporia. The event will kick off with a parade followed by various events such as sugar skull decorating and a community ofrenda.
