Emporia Fire and Emporia Police spent time at Logan Avenue School on Tuesday after a suspicious letter was apparently mailed to the school.
Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says the letter was reported around 10 am.
Emporia Police Lt. Scott Stormont says the letter arrived Monday.
Stormont says officers will determine where and who the letter came from and why it was mailed.
Both Conley and Stormont say this type of incident is relatively rare, but law enforcement and emergency responders train regularly for incidents like this.
USD 253 Community Relations Director Lyndel Landgren thanked Emporia Fire and Emporia Police for their work. He also says the district appreciates the ongoing partnership with local authorities, and it appreciates the staff who followed USD 253 training and procedures.
There were no injuries reported.
We’ll have updates as they come available on KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media.
