Emporia State University’s second annual Community Impact Challenge will culminate Wednesday.
Three teams of ESU students were recently selected as finalists in the grant competition. During the finals Wednesday, the teams will have 10- to 12-minute presentations about a problem they have identified within the Emporia community along with their chosen solutions. They will also have question-and-answer sessions of up to 10 minutes after their initial presentations.
The winning team will be chosen by a panel of faculty, staff, alumni, current students and community partners. That team will receive a $500 grant but must complete its proposed solution by May 2020.
Last year’s winners, Rachel Castro, Delaney Dold and Genevieve Lowery launched Bag-A-Birthday, which gave over 150 low-income families the supplies they needed to celebrate a child’s birthday.
The Community Impact Challenge finals begin at 5 pm at the Memorial Union Blue Key Room.
